Target name | Strengthen the capacity of all countries, in particular developing countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks |
---|---|
Indicator name | Percentage of bloodstream infections due to selected antimicrobial-resistant organisms |
Global / Proxy indicator | Global indicator |
Description of indicator | This indicator indicates the percentage of bloodstream infection due to methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Escherichia coli resistant to 3rd-generation cephalosporin (e.g., ESBL- E. coli) among patients seeking care and whose blood sample is taken and tested. This indicator is obtained by proportioning number of patients with growth of methicillin-resistant S. aureus or E. coli resistant to third generation cephalosporins in tested blood samples to number of patients with growth of S. aureus or E. coli in tested blood samples. |
Unit | % |

Calculation | Percentage of bloodstream infections due to organisms resistant to selected antimicrobials = (Number of patients with growth of third-generation cephalosporins-resistant E.coli or methicillin-resistant S.aureus in blood samples tested / Number of patients with growth of S. aureus or E. coli in blood samples tested) *100 |
Comparability | Comparable over time. Produced in full compliance with global metadata. |
