Description of indicator This indicator is defined as the number of maternal deaths per 100 000 live births in a year. Maternal death is the death of a woman during pregnancy or within 42 days after termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and location of pregnancy, due to pregnancy or for a reason exacerbated by the pregnancy process.
