Headline data

Target name Protect labour rights and promote safe and secure working environments for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment
Indicator name Incidence rates of fatal and non-fatal occupational injuries by sex
Global / Proxy indicator Global indicator
Description of indicator The indicator is presented as an incidence rate.
The incidence rate of fatal occupational accidents is calculated by dividing the number of fatal occupational accidents in the reference year (the sum of 4/1 (a), 4/1 (b), and 4/1 (c)) by full-time equivalent employment in the reference group, and multiplying the result by 100 000.
Similarly, the incidence rate of non-fatal occupational accidents is calculated by dividing the number of non-fatal occupational accidents in the reference year (the sum of 4/1 (a), 4/1 (b), and 4/1 (c)) by full-time equivalent employment in the reference group, and multiplying the result by 100 000.
Unit Per 100 000 employed
Available disaggregation Sex, NUTS2
Calculation Incidence rate of fatal occupational accidents = (Number of insured persons under 4/1(a), 4/1(b), and 4/1(c) who experienced a fatal occupational accident / Full-time equivalent employment) * 100 000
Incidence rate of non-fatal occupational accidents = (Number of insured persons under 4/1(a), 4/1(b), and 4/1(c) who experienced a non-fatal occupational accident / Full-time equivalent employment) * 100 000
Comparability Comparable over time. Produced in full compliance with global metadata.
Revision Since records on occupational accidents may be updated following reviews conducted and in line with judicial decisions, the relevant data may change dynamically with retroactive effect for previous years and may therefore differ from the data published in statistical yearbooks.
Other information The number of occupational accidents used in the denominator refers to the counts of fatal and non-fatal occupational accidents for insured persons under 4/1(a), 4/1(b), and 4/1(c), excluding occupations coded “0110, 0210, 0310, 5411, 5412, 5414, 5419” according to the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08).
The employment value used in the denominator was calculated on a full-time equivalent (FTE) basis by excluding the groups listed below and dividing total actual hours worked by 40:
-Occupations coded “0110, 0210, 0310, 5411, 5412, 5414, 5419” according to ISCO-08,
-Employers and own-account workers who are not registered with a social security institution,
-Unpaid family workers who are not registered with a social security institution.
