Headline data

Target name By 2030, improve water quality by reducing pollution, eliminating dumping and minimizing release of hazardous chemicals and materials, halving the proportion of untreated wastewater and substantially increasing recycling and safe reuse globally
Indicator name Percentage of assessed water bodies with good quality
Global / Proxy indicator Proxy indicator
Description of indicator The indicator is defined as the proportion of water bodies in the country with good ambient water quality. Ambient water quality refers to natural, untreated water in rivers, lakes and groundwater, and represents a view of natural influences along with the effects of all anthropogenic activities. The indicator is based on the analysis of samples collected from water quality surface and groundwater from on-site measurements.

Calculation As a result of the monitoring studies carried out by the General Directorate of DSI between 2015-2019, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Nitrate Nitrogen (NO3-N), Ammonium Nitrogen (NH4-N), Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen (TKN), Total Nitrogen (TN), Ortho-Phosphate Phosphorus (o-PO4-P) and Total Phosphorus (TP) parameters for the 21 river basin-specific monitoring data results "Surface Water Quality Regulation" was evaluated according to the criteria in Annex-5 Table-2.

The arithmetic average of the analysis results for each parameter in each water body according to the years was taken and the result was evaluated according to the criteria in the Annex-5 Table-2 of the "Surface Water Quality Regulation" and the 1st and 2nd class ones were classified as "good" quality. were evaluated (limit values are given in Table-4 calculation section). In the evaluation, the quality class of each parameter was determined and the final state of the water body was evaluated as "good" when 80% of the 10 parameters in question were in good condition. While determining the percentage of water bodies evaluated as good quality, the percentage of water bodies evaluated in good condition was taken.

The quality class is determined for each parameter;
(((X1+X2+...+Xn)/n) (((X1+X2+...+Xn)/n)>Limit value) --> 1st class, 2nd class or 3rd class
1st grade and 2nd grade --> "good status"
3rd grade --> "middle status"
Good due diligence in each water body;
(Number of 1st class parameters=X;
Number of 2nd class parameters=Y;
Number of 3rd class parameters = Z)
((X+Y)/(X+Y+Z))>0.8 --> "good condition"
Percentage of water bodies assessed as good quality =
(Number of water bodies in good condition/number of water bodies evaluated)
Comparability Comparable over time. Since it is a proxy indicator, it differs from global metadata in some way.
