Description of indicator This indicator refers the share of population served by water supply network in total population. Water supply network is the pipe network for distribution of water to the consumers and other usage points in a settlement. Concordant with the data source, end-year Address Based Population Registration System (ABPRS) population data is used.

Calculation Indicator value is obtained by dividing the population served by drinking water supply network in the Municipality and Village Water Statistics within the province borders by the total population included in the end-year ABPRS population data.

Sample coverage Transactions coverage: Via Municipal Water Statistics, data on the rate of population served by water supply network and drinking water treatment plants in municipalities, water abstraction for municipal water supply networks, types and capacities of municipal water treatment plants, water treated, treatment sludge disposal and water distribution have been collected via surveys.
Geographical coverage: All municipalities in Turkey
Sample size All municipalities with established municipal organizations
- For the years 2010 and 2012, 2950 municipalities
- For the years 2014 and 2016, 1397 municipalities
- For the year 2018 and 2020 , 1389 municipalities
Interview method Data is compiled with a web based data entry application.
Reference period for application of survey The "previous calendar year" data is compiled as the reference in the period by the time the data is published. The reference period for the latest data year is January 1 - December 31, 2020.
Field survey time and duration Field implementation starts as of February of the following year of the reference period and lasts about 2 months.
