Description of indicator | This indicator expresses the schooling rate of children (5 years old) one year before the compulsory primary school starting age. The calculation of net schooling percentage according to age groups (birth year) is obtained by dividing the total numbers of students in the relevant age group without considering the education level (type) of the students to the total population of the students in the relevant age group. |

Comparability | Produced in full compliance with global metadata. While calculating schooling rates for 2016 / '17, the population and the number of students who reside in Turkey as Turkish citizens are covered. Foreign nationals residing in Turkey and the number of foreign students are excluded from the calculation |

Other information | Children aged 57-68 months by the end of September of the year of registration are enrolled in kindergartens, nursery classes and practise classes. After the enrolment of children who will start primary education in the next educational year, children aged 3 (children who have completed 36 months by the end of September) and children aged 4 can be enrolled in kindergartens and practise classes with adequate physcial opportunities. Children aged 4 can also be enrolled in nursery classes. As an additional indicator, net schooling ratio in pre primary education, by sex and age group is also presented. |
