Headline data

This table provides metadata for the actual indicator available from Turkey statistics closest to the corresponding global SDG indicator. Please note that even when the global SDG indicator is fully available from Turkey statistics, this table should be consulted for information on national methodology and other Turkey-specific metadata information.

Target name By 2020, ensure the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of terrestrial and inland freshwater ecosystems and their services, in particular forests, wetlands, mountains and drylands, in line with obligations under international agreements
Indicator name Forest area as a proportion of total land area

Unit (%)
Available disaggregation -
Calculation (Forest area / Total land area) * 100
Comparability Since there are forest areas that have been cadastralized but whose registration has not been completed yet, the total forest area changes retrospectively. Thus the data is not comparable over time. Produced in full compliance with global metadata
Revision -
Other information Normal forest is defined as the forest land where tree canopy cover is between 11-100%. Open forest is defined as the forest land where tree canopy cover is less than 10% or trees able to reach this threshold in situ. Other wooded land where tree canopy cover is less than 10%. The trees in other wooded land are not able to reach more than 10% canopy cover in situ.
