This table provides metadata for the actual indicator available from Turkey statistics closest to the corresponding global SDG indicator. Please note that even when the global SDG indicator is fully available from Turkey statistics, this table should be consulted for information on national methodology and other Turkey-specific metadata information.

Target name Minimize and address the impacts of ocean acidification, including through enhanced scientific cooperation at all levels
Indicator name Average pH level of the seas
Global / Proxy indicator Global indicator
Description of indicator As an indicator of acidity in sea water, pH measurements are a physical parameter and are included in the determination of sea hydrographic conditions. In addition to large-scale human activities, climate change or the natural climate change of the region can be a factor in the permanent change of the hydrographic situation in the seas. With the pH value of sea water falling, the acidity of sea water increases, which affects the shell structure of sea creatures especially shellfish.
