Indicator name | Average pH level of the seas |
Global / Proxy indicator | Global indicator |
Description of indicator | As an indicator of acidity in sea water, pH measurements are a physical parameter and are included in the determination of sea hydrographic conditions. In addition to large-scale human activities, climate change or the natural climate change of the region can be a factor in the permanent change of the hydrographic situation in the seas. With the pH value of sea water falling, the acidity of sea water increases, which affects the shell structure of sea creatures especially shellfish. |
