Other information The current extreme poverty line is set at $3.00 a day in 2021 Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) terms, and this amount represents the average of the national poverty lines found in 23 low-income countries (Foster et al., 2025). The new poverty line maintains the same standard for extreme poverty—that is, it is based on the typical poverty line observed in the world’s poorest countries—but has been updated using the latest data on the cost of living in developing countries.

Description of indicator This indicator is defined as the % of persons (18-64) who are at work and have an equivalised disposable income below the risk-of-poverty threshold, which is set at 60 % of the national median equivalised disposable income (after social transfers). It is calculated as the ratio of working and also poor people to working people. The indicator is based on the EU-SILC (statistics on income, social inclusion and living conditions).
